Abstract

At the beginning of 2020, guidelines were being established for the celebration of the “International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife,” but no one imagined that a major problem was brewing with the arrival of COVID-19. In Latin America, there are approximately 9 million nursing professionals, and of these, 4.5 million are registered nurses, representing 50% of the health workforce and playing a fundamental role in primary health care.
